Quick, healthy, low-carb, gluten-free and easy. This recipe for tandoori masala swordfish steak will steal your taste buds and your heart.
When it comes to swordfish, I am in love. Honestly in love with the flavour and texture and I want to hoover the whole piece as quick as I can. I am telling you guys, if you have not tried swordfish before you absolutely should. This fish is very meaty - I mean proper. It does not fall apart while cooking and it is sooooo juicy (on condition that you know how to cook it properly).
This dish is perfect for beginners as requires a minimum cooking skill. In a nutshell, you only need to marinade the fish and fry it, right? Yes, but, please read the below tips to achieve the best results.
TIPS:
I have tested frying swordfish on different pans and different temperatures and the result were good but not as good as this technique. Overall, treat swordfish like a steak and fry in on a cast iron skillet, a very hot one! Use a standard vegetable oil and turn fish every minute until white in the middle. This will give you chargrilled exterior and perfectly cooked juicy swordfish.
This dish tastes great. The texture of fish is dense and very meaty. I like using swordfish steaks as they do not taste very fishy and can take on many different flavours. In this case the steaks paired wonderfully with aromatic tandoori masala spice.
What is a tandoori masala spice? It is nothing else, than a mix of spices like garam masala, onion, ginger, garlic and cayenne pepper. Of course the mix can differ depending on the region of India it comes from. It is not too spicy and for sure not too boring. If you like Indian food, you will like this dish for sure.
There is many options to serve dish fish. Personally I love pairing it with South Indian lemon rice or crushed potatoes with dill and garlic.

Apanē bhōjana kā ānanda lēṁ
Perfectly cooked swordfish steak seasoned with tandoori masala spice and fried on skillet
In a small bowl mix together lemon, tandoori masala spice and 1 tbsp vegetable oil, mix and set aside.
Dry swordfish steaks with paper towel.
Then rub the mixture into steaks. Make sure you cover sides as well.
Leave the steaks to marinate for at least 3 hours.
When you are ready to cook your fish, take cast iron skillet and heat it well.
TIP: make sure your cast iron skillet is very hot so you will get a nice crispy exterior.
Add 3 tbsp vegetable oil and then add swordfish.
Fry swordfish for 1 minute and then turn the steak on the other side.
Repeat 6 times. So in other words, you will fry your steaks for 3 minutes each side.
Turning the sides after each minute will help to cook fish evenly.
Fish is cooked when it is white in the middle.
Serve with your favourite salad.
